Local Guests on KRFY

On Wednesday, February 15, Gloria Ray, acquisitions librarian at Sandpoint Library, will be the guest of Jim Healey between 9:00 and 9:30 am on 88.5 KRFY. Gloria will talk about what an acquisitions librarian does; her “ever-so-close” retirement; about donating books to the library; about upcoming events at the library; and much more.

On Friday, February 17, Shirley Paulison — community liaison for Circles, part of a nation-wide effort to eradicate poverty in America — will join Jim Healey between 9:00 and 9:30 am on 88.5 KRFY to talk about Circles and what the organization is doing to eradicate poverty in north Idaho. The Northwest Circles Campaign of Bonner County
envisions all people having enough money, relationships and meaning in their lives to thrive. Some startling statistics will be under discussion: 1 in 8 Idaho children go to bed hungry every night; Idaho ranks first in the nation for young adults living in poverty; 25% of the population in North and North Central Idaho are not meeting their
basic needs on a daily basis; and Idaho’s welfare laws are ranked last in the nation in supporting a family’s efforts to become self-sufficient.

Tune in and hear people from north Idaho who are making a difference in the quality of life in our community.

88.5 KRFY Begins Underwriting Campaign

88.5 KRFY has begun an underwriting campaign in the north Idaho business community. Underwriting is when a business, organization, or individual contributes money or services to 88.5 KRFY Panhandle Community Radio and receives on-air acknowledgements for the support.

According to FCC guidelines, “noncommercial educational stations may acknowledge contributions over the air, but they may not broadcast commercials or otherwise promote the goods and services of for-profit donors or underwriters.”

KRFY is offering an underwriting package that is simple and straightforward. For more information, please call (208) 265-2992. If no one is in the office, leave a message and a KRFY representative will be back in touch with you..

A note on KRFY funding

How has defunding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting affected KRFY? Our station is funded solely by listeners, supporters and underwriters and has never received funding from the CPB. But some syndicated shows KRFY airs will be affected. The National Federation of Community Broadcasters has prepared a statement on impacts of the CPB closure. Click to read it.
