Varied topics on tap for Morning Show

The talk will range from wilderness to business to hospice and community food-raising efforts in the upcoming KRFY Morning Show programs. Here is what’s on tap for the week:

Friends of Scotchman PeaksTuesday, May 23: Join 88.5 KRFY Morning Show hosts Phil Hough and Julie Kallemeyn.  Their guests will be Mary Franzel and Britta Mirely, with an update from Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness.  That’s at 8 a.m. on 88.5 KRFY.

Sandpoint Business Improvement DistrictWednesday, May 24: It’s a twin-topic day, as Morning Show hosts Suzy Prez and Chris Bessler first talk with Lissa DeFreitas from Bonner Community Hospice about that organization’s work and its upcoming Hospice Kids Camp. In the second segment at the bottom of the hour, the talk turns to the Sandpoint Business Improvement District with Roger Woodworth of Mindset Matters, who is performing an independent review of the BID and soliciting input from downtown businesses to develop recommendations to the City Council for changes – or even termination of the BID. Airtime is 8 a.m., here on 88.5 KRFY .

Bonner Community Food BankThursday, May 25: Tune in to the Thursday edition of the KRFY Morning Show with hosts Jack Peterson and Jim Healey.  Their guests will be Debbie Love from the Bonner Community Food Bank and Michele Murphree from the Edible School Yard Garden Project. That’s at 8 a.m. on 88.5 KRFY community radio.

Tuesday, May 16: Join 88.5 KRFY Morning Show hosts Phil Hough and Julie Kallemeyn.  Their guest will be David Price Williams and Emily Cleveland from the Sandpoint Sustainability Committee, the advisory group appointed by the mayor and city council to help the city promote good stewardship and enhance connectivity. That’s at 8 a.m. on 88.5 KRFY.

CHAFE150-logoWednesday, May 17: Join 88.5 KRFY Morning Show hosts, Suzy Prez and Chris Bessler as they review the results of the previous day’s Lake Pend Oreille School District trustee election. Also on tap: An update from two organizers of the upcoming CHAFE 150 bike ride coming June 17, Mel Dick and Elana Westphal. Airtime is 8 a.m. here on 88.5 KRFY community radio for north Idaho.

101WomenThursday, May 18: Tune in to the Thursday edition of the KRFY Morning Show with hosts Jack Peterson and Jim Healey as they interview Jennifer MacDonald from 101 Women, which aims to unite and harness the power of charitable efforts for local organizations. That’s at 8 a.m. on 88.5 KRFY community radio.

CitizensClimateLobbyFriday, May 19: It’s a bonus Morning Show interview, with hosts Suzy Prez and Julie Kallemeyn in discussion with Gabrielle Duebendorfer representing Citizen’s Climate Lobby, a group that promotes a market-based carbon fee and dividend policy as a tool to lessen impacts of climate change. Gabrielle will talk about the local chapter’s May 20 event, “Stabilize the Climate and Boost the Economy.” That’s at 8 a.m. at 88.5 on your radio dial.

KRFY holiday spectacular live variety show

Celebrate the holidays. KRFY’s live radio show celebrating Christmas and the holidays is coming Friday, Dec 5, 7-9 p.m. at the Panida Theater. This variety show with all-local music, Christmas readings, skits and good humor has grown each year. You can tune in to 88.5 KRFY to hear the live broadcast – but even better, come share the warm holiday spirt and attend at the Panida. A note on KRFY funding

How has defunding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting affected KRFY? Our station is funded solely by listeners, supporters and underwriters and has never received funding from the CPB. But some syndicated shows KRFY airs will be affected. The National Federation of Community Broadcasters has prepared a statement on impacts of the CPB closure. Click to read it.
