Bob Over of the University of Idaho plus local nonprofit leaders Mandy Evans and Danielle Ahrens talked about this day-long workshop and networking event, that includes classes on fundraising, volunteerism, leadership and organizational strategies.

Jim Healey was in the studio on Monday morning to interview UofI collegiate members here in Sandpoint to raise awareness of the threat that invasive aquatic species pose to our Lake Pend Oreille. College professor Christine Moffitt, PhD. and her graduate & undergraduate student helpers are making a live presentation with slides, free to the public, at the Panida Little Theatre on Tuesday, June 24 at 7pm. They discussed the threats to our waters by a variety of transported species of vegetation and mollusks that have already been detected and have brought disastrous changes to Lake Tahoe in recent years..

Tuesday, June 24 at 8 a.m. on the KRFY Morning Show join Suzy Prez and Jim Healey. Their guest will be, Will Love, the journalism teacher at Sandpoint High School. They will be talking about the planned partnership, between Sandpoint High School and 88.5 KRFY, to bring a broadcast journalism program to high school student starting in the fall of 2014. KRFY intends to give a voice to the youth in our community.

Thursday, June 26 at 8 a.m. on the KRFY Morning Show,  Jim Healey and Jack Peterson will be in the studio. Their guest will be Joe Zimmerman, this summer’s intern with Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness group and back-country ranger with the U.S. Forest Service. Also, in the studio will be Sandy Compton, program coordinator of Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness, letting us know about the events around the 50th year anniversary of the signing of the Wilderness Act in the USA.

Wednesday, June 18 at 8 a.m., join KRFY broadcaster, Jim Healey, for an extra interview with Vicki Reich, manager at Winter Ridge,  and Tamie Martinsen, director at Transitions In Progress. They will be talking about Winter Ridge’s Bags of Change giving program.
Thursday, June 19 on the KRFY Morning Show, host Jim Healey and Jack Peterson welcome DayBreak Center director, Liz DeWolfe  at 8 a.m. Then, at 9 a.m.

Morning Show hosts, Jack Peterson and Jim Healey, welcome Dyno Wahl to the Mocha Room at the KRFY studios for the kick-off of the 2014 fund raising event. She talked to the hosts about each act, in depth, and selected songs by the artists were played to familiarize our listeners with the talent headed our way this summer. The highlight was a ticket giveaway, for the Ray Lamontagne and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue concerts, for the first two callers with a 50 dollar pledge — both of which were claimed before the interview was completed! Tuesday, June 3rd, join the KRFY Morning Show crew as they welcome KRFY founders, Jeff Poole and Kelly McTavish. With the annual membership drive coming up, it is a good time to talk about the how and why of this community radio stations early years. Tune in at 8 am to hear from some of the original KRFY crew.

Thursday, June 5th, join Jim and Jack for the KRFY Morning Show and Membership Drive Kick-Off with guest Dyno Wahl. The Festival at Sandpoint is top of the agenda. We will hear a review of this summer’s festival season offering and other Festival at Sandpoint news. It’s a great way to start the Membership Drive.

A note on KRFY funding

How has defunding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting affected KRFY? Our station is funded solely by listeners, supporters and underwriters and has never received funding from the CPB. But some syndicated shows KRFY airs will be affected. The National Federation of Community Broadcasters has prepared a statement on impacts of the CPB closure. Click to read it.
