Upcoming Guests and Events on 88.5 KRFY, August 28 – August 30

The following guests and event will be coming to 88.5 KRFY on Tuesday, August 28, through Thursday, August 30. Tune in and tell a friend. Hear about the many good things that individuals and organizations are doing to improve the quality of life for all people in north Idaho.

Tuesday, August 28, at 9:00 am: Michele Murphree, organizer and volunteer of the Edible Schoolyard Garden Project, will update us on the garden over the summer. She will also bring three elementary school gardeners extraordinaire with her — Ronnie Korn, Katie Korn, and Tyler Korn. The students will share their experiences with the garden and what they have learned.

Wednesday, August 29, at 9:00 am: Mary Crowe Costello, executive director of the Rock Creek Alliance, and Jim Costello, outreach and media coordinator, will talk about the organization’s annual party at the Pend Oreille Winery from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 13, and other upcoming events.

Thursday, August 30, at 9:00 am: Becky Kemery, a longtime Sandpoint resident and national yurt expert, passed away on August 18. Her final creative contribution to the field of alternative architecture was produced three weeks before her death: an audio production entitled “Shelter in the 21st Century” that was broadcast at a major festival in Virginia. 88.5 KRFY will air the fifteen-minute broadcast and share Becky’s vision and expertise with listeners. .

SOS forum recording

A “Save Our Schools” town hall was held Sept 12 at the Ponderay Events Center, and was recorded and broadcast by KRFY the following day. A capacity crowd heard discussion by a local panel on the impact on public schools of the Parental Choice Tax Credit, aka House Bill 93, that was approved by the Idaho Legislature to provide $50 million in funding to families who educate their children in private schools.  Did you miss the forum? A note on KRFY funding

How has defunding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting affected KRFY? Our station is funded solely by listeners, supporters and underwriters and has never received funding from the CPB. But some syndicated shows KRFY airs will be affected. The National Federation of Community Broadcasters has prepared a statement on impacts of the CPB closure. Click to read it.
