Thursday Morning Interview with the Bonner Community Food Bank Directors

Jim Healey was in the studios this morning at 9AM to interview Alice Wallace, Executive Director, and Jennie Aus, Assistant Director, of our local Bonner Community Food Bank. They are celebrating 1 year in their new facility with an open house scheduled for November 9th, 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM. The need for holiday meal items, including an estimated 1,000 turkeys (only 6 are currently at the food bank!) was a priority topic, as well as the operations and distribution systems that the facility offers the community in need..

November’s Benefit Concert for KRFY at Di Luna’s Announced

Doug and Kim Bond appearing at Di Luna’s Cafe

Keep your calendar open for another fund-raiser concert at Di Luna’s Cafe on Cedar Street in early November. Local performers Doug and Kim Bond headline with their energized and exciting mix of folk, rock, bluegrass, highlighted by blazing vocal solos and soulful harmonies.

Opening for the Bonds are the Wild Honey Band, a trio of fun ladies bringing their vocal and acoustic talents together as they redefine renditions of popular rock ballads.

This fund-raiser benefit for your panhandle community radio station, 88.5 FM, KFRY is scheduled for November 10th at 7:30 PM, with optional dinner beginning at 5:30 PM. Please call Di Luna’s in advance to make your separate dinner reservations..

North Idaho College Interview on Tuesday Morning: Open House this Thursday at New Facility

Jim Healey invited representatives from the local field campus of North Idaho College (NIC) into the studio on Tuesday morning to discuss the open house introduction of the relocated classrooms now at the Sandpoint Events Center (previous located at the Bonner Mall).  Amy Flint, (English Instructor) and Mary Gustafik (Center Coordinator) discussed the new facility, the classes available, and the opportunity for Sandpoint residents of all ages and income brackets to take advantage of furthering their eduction in this accredited satellite facility, part of the Coeur d’Alene North Idaho College campus..

This week’s guest is well known Sandpoint, songwriter/musician Truck Mills. Truck has been critically acclaimed: “Truck is an acoustic blues guitar player extraordinaire” and “one of the most talented performers in our region.” Listen as Truck talks about how he was musically inspired in the 70’s by the transcendent slide guitar playing of Blind Willie Johnson and how his musical style has evolved over the years to an inspired blending of world music with blues and Americana.  Trucks story and original music is bound to inspire.

Upcoming Guests on 88.5 KRFY on Monday, October 15, and Tuesday, October 16

The following guests will be coming to 88.5 KRFY on Monday (Oct. 15) and Tuesday (Oct. 16). Tune in and tell a friend!  Hear about the many good things that individuals and organizations are doing to improve the quality of life for all people in north Idaho and beyond.

Monday, October 15, at 9:00 am: Carrie Logan (second-term Sandpoint City Council member and current council president), Jeremy Grimm (Director of Planning, Zoning and Community Development), and Kim Woodruff (Director of Parks and Recreation) will talk about the Sandpoint Local Option Tax, what necessitates the request from voters, the impact on the paying public, and the vote to happen this November 6.

Tuesday, October 16, at 9:00 am: Tami Feyen, manager of the Bonner General Hospital Home Health and Bonner Community Hospice, and Tricia Gardner, volunteer and bereavement coordinator, will talk about Home Health and Hospice services and the various bereavement and support programs..

Mike & Shanna Thompson Benefit Concert DiLuna’s Saturday, October 13

 

This Saturday, October 13, Michael and Shanna Thompson will perform a benefit concert for 88.5 KRFY at Di Luna’s.  You can have dinner and enjoy the concert OR just attend the concert. Dinner reservations begin at 5:30 pm and can be made by calling 263-0846. Dinner is ordered from a special menu, and the price is not included with the concert ticket. The concert begins at 7:30 pm and costs $10. Coarsely chop pop, rock, bluegrass, americana, folk, and jazz/blues. Mix well with powerful guitar rhythms while folding in the masterfully carved audio filigree of Michael Thompson. Season generously with fresh harmony and solo vocals. Serve over a fluffy bed of covers and cornucopian originals. So, have a wonderful autumn night on the town . . . enjoy dinner at Di Luna’s, listen to music by local artists Michael and Shanna Thompson, and raise much-needed funds for your favorite community-supported radio station — 88.5 KRFY! Tuesday, October 9, at 10:00 am Bill Howell and Ann Sydow, members of the Northern Idaho Wolf Alliance, talked about the Constitutional Amendment called HJR-2 that will be voted on this November. Listeners learned about the amendment and the consequences of approval of such a ballot measure.
