This week’s guest is well known Sandpoint, songwriter/musician Truck Mills. Truck has been critically acclaimed: “Truck is an acoustic blues guitar player extraordinaire” and “one of the most talented performers in our region.” Listen as Truck talks about how he was musically inspired in the 70’s by the transcendent slide guitar playing of Blind Willie Johnson and how his musical style has evolved over the years to an inspired blending of world music with blues and Americana.  Trucks story and original music is bound to inspire.

Upcoming Guests on 88.5 KRFY on Monday, October 15, and Tuesday, October 16

The following guests will be coming to 88.5 KRFY on Monday (Oct. 15) and Tuesday (Oct. 16). Tune in and tell a friend!  Hear about the many good things that individuals and organizations are doing to improve the quality of life for all people in north Idaho and beyond.

Monday, October 15, at 9:00 am: Carrie Logan (second-term Sandpoint City Council member and current council president), Jeremy Grimm (Director of Planning, Zoning and Community Development), and Kim Woodruff (Director of Parks and Recreation) will talk about the Sandpoint Local Option Tax, what necessitates the request from voters, the impact on the paying public, and the vote to happen this November 6.

Tuesday, October 16, at 9:00 am: Tami Feyen, manager of the Bonner General Hospital Home Health and Bonner Community Hospice, and Tricia Gardner, volunteer and bereavement coordinator, will talk about Home Health and Hospice services and the various bereavement and support programs..

Mike & Shanna Thompson Benefit Concert DiLuna’s Saturday, October 13

 

This Saturday, October 13, Michael and Shanna Thompson will perform a benefit concert for 88.5 KRFY at Di Luna’s.  You can have dinner and enjoy the concert OR just attend the concert. Dinner reservations begin at 5:30 pm and can be made by calling 263-0846. Dinner is ordered from a special menu, and the price is not included with the concert ticket. The concert begins at 7:30 pm and costs $10. Coarsely chop pop, rock, bluegrass, americana, folk, and jazz/blues. Mix well with powerful guitar rhythms while folding in the masterfully carved audio filigree of Michael Thompson. Season generously with fresh harmony and solo vocals. Serve over a fluffy bed of covers and cornucopian originals. So, have a wonderful autumn night on the town . . . enjoy dinner at Di Luna’s, listen to music by local artists Michael and Shanna Thompson, and raise much-needed funds for your favorite community-supported radio station — 88.5 KRFY! Monday, October 8, at 9:00 am: Kim Queen, executive director of the Pend Oreille Arts Council (POAC), will talk about the upcoming POAC Performing Arts Series 2012-2013 that kicks off this Wednesday night at the Panida Theatre with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Kim will give information about the seven different events that make 2012-2013 performing arts series something not to be missed.

So, tune in to 88.5 KRFY at 8:00 and hear insights into the art of songwriting with Suzy and Kevin.

Thursday, October 11, at 9:00 am: Ray Pollard and Lei Edstrom, co-organizers of the Friends of Jennifer Benefit Dinner & Auction, will talk about the event taking place in Clark Fork on Saturday, October 20, at 6:00 pm at the Filling Station Youth Center. Thursday, October 11, at 9:00 pm: Jim Healey, overseer of KRFY folk music on Thursday nights from 9:00 pm to 12:00 am, and Larry Alford, host of Spoonful at 8:00 on Thursday nights, will go “live” on the air from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm (the first hour of the three hours of folk music). Their focus will be on the first three acoustic albums of Bob Dylan that are nearly fifty years old. They will share insights into the music on these three albums (Bob Dylan; Freewheelin’; and The Times They Are A-Changin’). Dylan recently released his gazillionth album, Tempest, so it is fitting to take a backward glance to see where his audio journey began.  .

Between The Notes Interview with Singer/Songwriter Kevin Brown from Spokane, WA

 

Join us Tuesday, October 9th at 8 pm on 88.5 KRFY for another edition of “Between the Notes”.

This week’s guest is singer-songwriter Kevin Brown. Kevin lives in Spokane, Washington and has been playing music and, sing and writing songs for over 20 years. He is well known in the Inland Northwest as the host of Front Porch Bluegrass on Spokane Public Radio KPBX and the music director for the Blue Waters Bluegrass Festival each August. Kevin’s music is rapidly gaining attention in the northwest and nationally as his newest CD The Beloved Country hits the airwaves. His first CD The Country Primaries was reviewed as “easily one of the best debut albums of 2010 — his songwriting skills are unmatched among the new breed of singer-songwriters to emerge over the past few years.”  — Adam Sheets, No Depression. In addition to Kevin’s solo career as a singer-songwriter he is a member of the popular Spokane bluegrass band Big Red Barn.

Thursday, October 4, at 9:00 am Jeff Poole interviewed Kody Van Dyk, Public Works Director for the city of Sandpoint, and discussed the current planning and public input concerning Sandpoint in the post-bypass era and the opportunities for the public to have input about the city streets project including traffic flow, pedestrian-friendly spaces and  for the increased need of a comprehensive bicycle path system..
