Upcoming Guests on 88.5 KRFY, October 2 – October 4

The following guests will be coming to 88.5 KRFY on Tuesday, October 2, through Thursday, October 4. Tune in and tell a friend. Hear about the many good things that individuals and organizations are doing to improve the quality of life for all people in north Idaho.

Tuesday, October 2, at 9:00 am: Suzy Prez, local presenter on 88.5 KRFY, will talk about her new program “Between the Notes” that debuts on Tuesday night at 8:00 pm. “Between the Notes” will focus on regional and national singer/songwriters as they discuss their craft and inspirations.

Wednesday, October 3, at 9:00 am: Bonnie Jakobus, Summer Project Coordinator for Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness, will talk about the 5th Annual Scotchman Peaks Plein Air Paint Out to be held on October 5 (Friday) through October 7 (Sunday).

Thursday, October 4, at 9:00 am: Kody Van Dyk, Public Works Director for the city of Sandpoint, will talk about the city streets project.

New Local Program Between the Notes Begins Tuesday Evening


KRFY is pleased to announce a new local program, Between the Notes, hosted by Suzy Prez.

Between the Notes takes a musical exploration into the craft of songwriting.  This half- hour radio show presents original music and interviews with songwriters. Join us as we discover how songs are created in their own unique and extraordinary way. Listen and be inspired.

Tribute Rebroadcast of Becky Kemery’s Presentation, “Shelter in the 21st Century”


Thursday, August 30, at 9:00 am: Becky Kemery, a longtime Sandpoint resident and national yurt expert, passed away on August 18. Her final creative contribution to the field of alternative architecture was produced three weeks before her death: an audio production entitled “Shelter in the 21st Century” that was broadcast at a major festival in Virginia. 88.5 KRFY aired the fifteen-minute broadcast this morning to share Becky’s vision and expertise with its listeners.

Jeff Poole Interviews Bill Collier about Fund Raising Events Planned for the Sandpoint Chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America, Thursday, July 26th in the 9:00 AM hour

 


Bill Collier joins Jeff Poole in the Tiki Room for another discussion about upcoming fund raising events for his veterans group. Bill is secretary of the Sandpoint Chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America. He will be talking about the upcoming garage sale at Veterans post 890, west Pine Street, on August 4-5 and also about a planned golf scramble event in mid-August and the need for both sponsors and players for this fun event..

Scott Kirby joins KRFY Tuesday morning, July 24th in the 9 am hour.

Scott will be interviewed by Jeff Poole in the studio to discuss several topics including, his painting process as this summer’s selected poster artist for The Festival at Sandpoint, his performances of piano music every Friday evening this summer at his First Light Gallerie on First Avenue, and his current musical inspirations he shares as part of the Local Music Scene on Friday nights at 9:00 pm here on KRFY, 88.5 FM..

Fundraiser Concert at Di Luna’s Cafe Saturday Evening

Di Luna’s restaurant is hosting a dinner and concert event on Saturday, July 21, concert begins at 7:30 p.m. An evening of friends, fun, food & music benefit fundraiser for KRFY 88.5, Panhandle Community Radio.

Performing headliners are Not Quite Punk (a local quartet of talented musicians with a lively blend of swing/ska/rock-n-roll beats)
and Clyde the Ghost (duo singer/guitarists).

Dinner begins serving at 5:30 p.m. (guests order from special menu and have a discount price of $10 for the concert following the meal).

Concert ticket price is $12 at the door. Please call to reserve tickets and a table by phoning Di Luna’s at 208 263-0846. The restaurant is located at 207 Cedar Street, left side of the block between Second and Third Avenues. Sandpoint, Idaho..

Tingstad and Rumbel at the Panida Theatre

On Friday afternoon, January 20, the studio at KRFY came alive with the sounds of Tingstad and Rumbel. Nancy Rumbel and Eric Tingstad were in Sandpoint for a benefit concert for the Sandpoint Waldorf School on Saturday evening at the Panida Theatre. Tingstand and Rumbel, a Grammy Award Winning duo for Guitar and Woodwinds, played two songs “live” in the studio during the interview. In the interview the duo talked about their collaboration for over twenty-five years, their individual music interests, and their composing process. Many thanks to Jeff Poole for producing the interview and live performances.

A note on KRFY funding

How has defunding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting affected KRFY? Our station is funded solely by listeners, supporters and underwriters and has never received funding from the CPB. But some syndicated shows KRFY airs will be affected. The National Federation of Community Broadcasters has prepared a statement on impacts of the CPB closure. Click to read it.
