Catch live updates for the record-breaking swim of Lake Pend Oreille

Marthon Swimmer Elaine Howley

Marathon Swimmer Elaine Howley with Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay in the background – one of the many open-water swims she has accomplished.

Marathon swimmer Elaine Howley was in the studio for today’s Morning Show, telling about the attempt she’ll begin tomorrow evening around 7 p.m., to swim the length of Lake Pend Oreille from Buttonhook Bay up to Sandpoint City Beach.

Elaine anticipates her swim will take 17-20 hours – and KRFY listeners can follow along on her epic swim, as we will be broadcasting regular progress reports on Elaine’s swim, with updates provided by phone from her support crew. Then, be sure to tune in to KRFY 88.5 for live on-air updates that will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday as Elaine approaches City Beach. Her estimated arrival time is 1:00 p.m. – all very dependent on her swim pace, the weather and water conditions, of course.

A note on KRFY funding

How has defunding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting affected KRFY? Our station is funded solely by listeners, supporters and underwriters and has never received funding from the CPB. But some syndicated shows KRFY airs will be affected. The National Federation of Community Broadcasters has prepared a statement on impacts of the CPB closure. Click to read it.
