KRFY Morning ShowTuesday, November 7: Join Morning Show hosts Phil Hough and Julie Kallemeyn as they offer musings about the late River Journal news magazine, with publisher Trish Gannon and contributing writers Sandy Compton and Ernie Hawks. Wednesday, November 8: Join Morning Show hosts Chris Bessler and Suzy Prez for analysis of the “Local Decision 2017,” with a wrap-up of the Sandpoint and Ponderay city council elections held just the previous day, with Ben Olson of the Sandpoint Reader. A second interview with folks from the upcoming Farmers Holiday Market will follow, for a two-topic morning. That’s at 8 a.m on 88.5 KRFY.

Thursday, November 9: Join Morning Show hosts Jack Peterson and Jim Healey. Their guest will be Madeline Elliott from the Unknown Locals playacting group, who will talk about the upcoming production of “Thoreau: Ballad of Walden.” Airtime is 8 a.m., right here on 88.5 KRFY.

Special podcast: Sandpoint City Council candidates’ forum

Local Decision 2017 on KRFYKRYF joined Sandpoint Reader and SandpointOnline.com on Oct. 30, 2017 to sponsor a candidates’ forum for Sandpoint City Council candidates at Sandpoint Community Hall, for the upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 7 city elections.

Of the six candidates for the three open council seats, three attended and spoke: Joel Aispuro, Jeff Bohnhof and Shannon Williamson. Three candidates who will also be on the ballot did not attend: John Darling, Mose Dunkel and Robert Jediny. In the forum moderated by Ben Olson of the Reader, the audience of about 60 submitted questions for the candidates to answer.

What's Happening Up North: Prospering Business ConferenceWednesday, November 1: What’s the state of our local economy – and our local job market? Those are two topics that Paul Kusche, executive director of the Bonner County Economic Development Corporation, will address when he talks with hosts Chris Bessler and Suzy Prez. Those are also themes for the upcoming What’s Happening Up North prospering business conference to be held the following day, Nov. 2. Airtime is 8 a.m., at 88.5 KRFY.

Bonner General HealthThursday, November 2: Join Morning Show hosts Jack Peterson and Jim Healey. Their guests will be Audrey Buck and Mary Kaiser from Bonner General Health who will talk about the upcoming Diabetes Day event. Upcoming Morning Show topics cover politics, elk, help for those in need

It’s a varied week of topics coming October 24-26 for the Morning Show on KRFY. Here is what is on tap for the week:

Tuesday, October 24: Join Morning Show hosts Phil Hough and Julie Kallemeyn. Their first guests will be Laura Wolfe and Barb More, biologists with Idaho Fish and Game who will talk about the Panhandle elk mortality study. Second guests will be Catherine Perusse and Amy Topp with the North Idaho 24-hour crisis line. That’s at 8 a.m at 88.5.

Local Decision 2017 on KRFY Wednesday, October 25: The second of two “Local Decision 2017” editions of the Morning Show airs, with interviews of three of the six Sandpoint City Council candidates, Joel Aispuro, Jeff Bohnhof and John Darling. Airtime is 8 a.m.
The previous week’s October 18 show featured candidates Mose Dunkel, Robert Jediny and Shannon Williamson. City elections are November 7.

The Sandpoint City Candidates Forum, co-hosted by KRFY with Sandpoint Online and Sandpoint Reader, is October 30, 5:30-7:30 at Sandpoint Community Hall. Candidates will answer questions submitted by audience members. Want to submit a question in advance? Email it to [email protected].

Thursday, October 26: Join Morning Show hosts Jack Peterson and Carrie Logan. Their guest will be Lissa DeFreitas with Bonner Health Community Hospice.That’s at 8 a.m., here on 88.5 KRFY.

Elk, city council candidates and the food bank are topics on tap for the week of October 17 on the Morning Show. Read on for the lineup:

Tuesday, October 17: Join Morning Show hosts Phil Hough and Carrie Logan. Their  guests will be Pacific Crest Trail hikers  Liz Thomas and Naomi Hudetz. Catch the talk live, at 8 a.m. on 88.5.

Local Decision 2017 on KRFY Wednesday, October 18: Hosts Chris Bessler and Suzy Prez kick off the first of two “Local Decision 2017” editions of the Morning Show, featuring interviews with three of the six Sandpoint City Council candidates up for election on November 7. The following week’s October 25 show will conclude with the three other council candidates. Airtime is 8 a.m.

Thursday, October 19: Join Morning Show hosts Jim Healey and Jack Peterson. Their guest will be Debbie Love from the Bonner Community Food Bank. That’s at 8 a.m., here on 88.5 KRFY.

Wednesday, October 11: Morning Show hosts Chris Bessler and Suzy Prez will talk with Johnelle Fifer from Understory Coffee, organizer of the upcoming Doggy Costume Contest benefiting the Panhandle Animal Shelter. Airtime is 8 a.m at 88.5, KRFY community radio.

Thursday, October 12: Join Morning Show hosts Jim Healey and Jack Peterson. Their guest will be Nanci Jenkins, a dietician with Panhandle Health District, to talk about the upcoming fundraiser for the Bonner County Coalition For Health fundraiser, Change for Change. Actor and filmmaker Viggo Mortensen is returning for another turn at the live microphone as a guest DJ this Thursday, Oct. 2, right here on KRFY. Viggo is a part-time local resident and a longtime supporter of independent radio. Tune in to 88.5 FM or stream it to hear his musical picks and commentary, live 1-3 p.m. If you miss the live show, it will be rebroadcast on air and streaming, 7-9 p.m. that evening.

A “Save Our Schools” town hall was held Sept 12 at the Ponderay Events Center, and was recorded and broadcast by KRFY the following day. A capacity crowd heard discussion by a local panel on the impact on public schools of the Parental Choice Tax Credit, aka House Bill 93, that was approved by the Idaho Legislature to provide $50 million in funding to families who educate their children in private schools.  Did you miss the forum? A note on KRFY funding

How has defunding and closure of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting affected KRFY? Our station is funded solely by listeners, supporters and underwriters and has never received funding from the CPB. But some syndicated shows KRFY airs will be affected. The National Federation of Community Broadcasters has prepared a statement on impacts of the CPB closure. Click to read it.
