Viggo Mortensen, actor, writer, photographer, and musician, stopped by KRFY studios on Thursday, June 7.  He went on the air for nearly an hour talking about his upcoming benefit for the Panida Theater and 88.5 KRFY on Friday June 8.  Viggo talked about his latest release, “A Dangerous Method,” where he plays the role of Sigmund Freud.  He then talked about the importance of the arts in the life of a community.  The Friday night event was a sellout.  Viggo introduced “A Dangerous Method” and then answered audience questions after the film.  He has graciously agreed to do an encore performance on Tuesday, June 12.  Many thanks to Viggo for all that he is doing and has done for community-supported radio in north Idaho.

An interview with Viggo will occur on Thursday, June 7, at a little after 1:00 pm on 88.5 KRFY. Tune in to community-supported radio for north Idaho!.

Recent Guests on 88.5 KRFY

During the week of May 7-11, many members of the local community stopped by the station to talk about upcoming events and important happenings in north Idaho.  The station photographer was able to snap photos of some of them.

On Tuesday, May 8, Susan Bates-Harbuck talked about the Sandpoint Library’s Bookmobile — its history, it hours, and its traffic patterns.
On Wednesday, May 9, Eric Ridgway, director of the Long Bridge Swim, talked about this year’s event on 4 August 2012, the Long Bridge Swim’s history, and why folks should be signing up now.
Also on Wednesday, May 9, Karin Wedemeyer and Ruth Klinginsmith, cofounders of the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint, talked about the conservatory and the music programs it offers to students of all ages.
On Thursday, May 10, Deb Hunsicker and Phil Hough, long-distance hikers, gave a preview of their upcoming presentation on hiking the Appalachian Trial, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail. The presentation will occur at the Sandpoint Community Hall on Wednesday, May 16.
Also on Thursday, May 10, Rick Leader, disc golf enthusiast, talked about a new disc golf course that was being built on the University of Idaho’s field campus on north Boyer Street in Sandpoint.  Rick was looking for volunteers to help build the course.  Volunteers were to meet on Saturday, May 12, at 11:00 at the field campus.
KRFY thanks all of the members of the community who have stopped by the station in past months. Without their support the station would not be able to let listeners know about all of the excellent organizations and individuals that exist in north Idaho.
Jim Healey, the interviewer, will be out of town from May 12 to May 30.  Interviews will resume on May 31 with Sandy Compton of Friends of Scotchman Peaks. Sandy will talk about the summer programs that the Friends are offering.
Thanks to photographer Doug Jones for snapping the excellent photos.

Fundraiser for KRFY at Di Luna’s on May 5

On Saturday, May 5, 88.5 KRFY hosted a fundraiser with John Kelley and Friends performing at Di Luna’s. Over forty dinners were served at Di Luna’s before John Kelley took the stage. He played three sets — the first and third set with Bob Crader and the second set with Tom Newbill. The acoustic guitars and vocals of John, Bob, and Tom were a major hit with the nearly full house. KRFY would like to thank John, Bob and Tom for donating their musical talents; Karen and her staff at Di Luna’s; the station’s Events Committee; and all the wonderful members of the community who turned out on Cinco de Mayo for a delightful evening.

Casey Brookings and Suzy Prez welcome folks at they enter Di Luna’s. Notice the list of KRFY underwriters attached to the table.
